Short answer: On your first day, bring the documents for your Form I-9: either one document from List A (like a U.S. passport) or one from List B (like a driver’s license) plus one from List C (like a Social Security card or birth certificate). Also have your bank’s routing and account numbers ready so you can set up direct deposit in Workday.
Starting a new job comes with a pile of paperwork. Getting it right in week one means your first paycheck arrives on time and in the right account.
The documents you need: Form I-9
Every U.S. employer, including Dollar Tree, must verify that new hires can work in the U.S. using Form I-9. These rules come from USCIS, not from the store.
- You fill out Section 1 of the form no later than your first day of work.
- You show your original documents within three business days of your first day.
- You choose which acceptable documents to bring. The employer can’t demand specific ones.
| Bring either | Examples |
|---|---|
| One List A document | U.S. passport or passport card, permanent resident card, employment authorization document |
| Or one List B document plus one List C document | List B: driver’s license or state ID card. List C: Social Security card, or a certified birth certificate |
Documents must be originals (a certified copy of a birth certificate is accepted) and must not be expired. Photocopies and phone photos aren’t accepted. The full list is on the USCIS website.
Also have ready
- Bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit. You’ll find them in your bank app.
- Your address and an emergency contact.
- Your W-4 choices. Federal tax withholding is set on Form W-4. The IRS Tax Withholding Estimator can help if you’re unsure.

Your manager or HR gives you your sign-in details for these systems. Never share your password with coworkers, and only sign in on Dollar Tree’s official sites.
Your first paycheck
Dollar Tree pays every two weeks, and pay is processed after a pay period closes. Depending on when you start, your first check can take two to three weeks to arrive. See Does Dollar Tree pay weekly or biweekly? for the details.

Can I bring a photo of my Social Security card?
No. Form I-9 requires original documents. A certified copy of a birth certificate is accepted.
