Short answer: Dollar Tree pays biweekly, not weekly. Store associates get paid every two weeks, which works out to 26 paychecks a year. Most associates say payday falls on a Friday, and your exact pay date is printed on your paystub in Compass.
If you just started, or you’re trying to line up bills with your check, the details below matter more than the one-line answer. They cover when the money actually shows up, how long the first check takes, and how overtime works on a two-week cycle.
Weekly vs biweekly at Dollar Tree
| Weekly pay | Biweekly pay (Dollar Tree) | |
|---|---|---|
| How often | Every week | Every two weeks |
| Paychecks a year | 52 | 26 |
| Hours on each check | One week | Two weeks |
| Months with an extra check | Four or five months | Usually two months a year get three checks |
Biweekly is not the same as semi-monthly. Semi-monthly means fixed dates like the 15th and the last day of the month. Biweekly means every 14 days, so the date moves around the calendar but the weekday stays the same.

What day and what time does Dollar Tree pay?
Most associates report getting paid on Friday. The time the money appears depends on your bank, not on Dollar Tree. Many banks post direct deposits overnight or early in the morning on payday. Some online banks and credit unions release direct deposits a day or two early once the payroll file arrives.
If payday comes and the money isn’t there by the end of the day, check two things before calling anyone:
- Your paystub in Compass. It shows the pay date and the account the money went to.
- Your direct deposit details. A typo in the routing or account number, or a recently changed account, is the most common reason a deposit goes missing.
Holidays can shift things slightly. Some associates say they were paid early around Thanksgiving, for example. When a bank holiday lands on or near payday, look at the pay date on your stub rather than assuming it’s Friday.
When will I get my first paycheck?
Your first check usually takes longer than two weeks. Pay is processed after a pay period closes, so the hours you work this period are paid on the following payday. If you start in the middle of a period, your first check covers only the days you worked, and it can take two to three weeks from your first shift to see it.
New hires often get their first check before direct deposit is fully set up. If that happens, ask your store manager how it will be paid out. Get your direct deposit entered as early as you can so the next check goes straight to your bank.
How overtime works on a biweekly schedule
This is where people get confused. Under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, overtime is counted per workweek, not per pay period. Each week stands on its own.
Say you work 46 hours in week one and 34 hours in week two. That’s 80 hours total, which looks like two normal weeks. But week one had 6 hours over 40, so you’re owed 6 hours of overtime at 1.5 times your rate. Both weeks are paid on the same check.
Some states add their own rules on top. California, for example, also pays overtime after 8 hours in a single day. If your stub doesn’t show the overtime you expected, check each week separately before raising it with your manager.
Can I get paid weekly or early?
There’s no option to switch to weekly pay. Dollar Tree’s careers benefits page lists DailyPay, a voluntary benefit that lets associates get paid on the day they choose. It’s optional, so check any fees in the app before using it. See Dollar Tree employee benefits.
An early direct deposit feature at your own bank is the other way to get money a day or two sooner, and it doesn’t take anything out of your future check.
